Our Current Residents

Gigi- Named for the movie star Ginger Grant (G.G.) in the television show "Gilligan's Island", Gigi was our first Greyhound-- Greyts, as they are known. Her racing name had been Mary Jane. In the beginning she was very timid and shy, but after our second dog Mr. Buck came along, she developed into a strong confident dog. As a younger dog she would run laps around the back yard in the rain. Gigi, now 13, enters her twilight years she reminds us how very blessed we are to be given the privilege of caring for these wonderful animals.

Ken Doll- Came to us as a one year old and was named by one of our Doggie Day Care emplyees after his being ripped like a body builder and his blond (fawn) hair. Ken Doll has always been a vibrant, outgoing dog. As a puppy he would greet people by jumping up and putting his paws on their shoulders. He loves to sing when he is happy, "roo roo roooing" his delight. He is now 9

Dash- Had been adopted out twice and was abused in at least one of those situations. He had become violently aggressive, so we were asked to take him as an alternative
to his being put down. He is the kindest, gentlest dog and has a "nose" for anything left on the counter. One night after a small dinner party, we had left 3/4 of a cheesecake on the
table for about 30 seconds. After it disappeared the only traces that were found were graham crackers on Dash's lips! He also loves apples and standing under the kitchen table during
dinner. Dash is 10.

Misty- Racing name "KC Misty Wind" Misty is one of the happiest dogs we have ever known. We got her when she was 2. She was just as excited about life then as she is now. When we get home Misty runs in a small circle, looking as though she is laughing with delight. Her favorite color is purple-- she always picks out the purple stuffie whenever we get new toys. Misty is 12.

Wylie- previously known as "Wild Bill," Wylie bit his trainer. The owners wanted to put him down, but he was sent to us as a possible "vicious dog." After observing him for about 5 minutes we took his muzzle off. Wylie is a gentle giant. He loves to be loved. Every morning around 6:30 he lets us know it is time to get up. Wylie is 8

Kali- Always known as Kali, she arrived as a six week old puppy. Her mother had been rescued from a racetrack in Tijuana. Kali was so small when we got her that we
made a dog coat out of a tube sock! Kali loves to cuddle. After a wild childhood, she has settled down and is a happy, active dog. Kali is 4.

Togo- "Way to Go," as he was known, Togo had some type of injury to his rear legs that was never fixed. As a result he walks in very short, halting steps and cannot climb
stairs. After we pulled him onto the couch once, he now backs his butt up to the couch so that he can be pulled onto our laps. He also has figured out how to get in the kiddie pool on hot days!
Togo is 5.

Pepi- "Pepi the Puppy," is actually what is known as a "Lurcher." Lurchers are bred by crossing various sight hounds to hunt Coyotes. Pepi is half Scottish Deer Hound, half Greyhound/Borzoi. We got Pepi at 5 months. He is a sweet and mischievous and loves to go on runs with Zach. Pepi is 4.

Wizzard- "Whiz Kid" is another ex-racing Greyhound who had a rear leg injury. It appears that a tendon was severed and not repaired, as a result he mostly does not use that leg. Wizzard loves to be outside, especially at Sunset and will lie in the tall grass for hours. He gets very excited when it is meal time, running in circles and barking. Wizzard is 5

Bella- Bella is another dog that was to given us because she had bitten two people. When we got her she acted strangely, usually before mealtime, running to hide and growling. After a few weeks that behavior changed and she has a big personality. She likes to sneak up and nip one on the butt! Bella is 3.

Emmett- Emmett is an Irish Wolfhound mix. His owner moved to Hawaii and couldn't take him with her. So Emmett became part of the group. Emmett quickly found his place
on the couch and enjoys belly rubs. Emmett is 9.

Hannah- Hannah is the only non-sighthound we have. She, her mother, father and the entire litter, were dumped in a box on the side of the road in Texas. We got
Hannah when she was 8 weeks old. Hannah is some sort of shepherd mix and her herding instincts and protective disposition define her. She sleeps at the end of the bed and does not allow
any dogs not on the "guest list" to get into bed. She knows the dogs names and when we ask her where one of them is, she will go find them. Hannah is 10.
